Pete Seeger, May 3, 1919 – January 27, 2014

“Well, I’ve got a hammer and I’ve got a bell,
and I’ve got a song to sing all over this land.
It’s the hammer of justice.  It’s the bell of freedom.
It’s a song about love between my brothers and my sisters, all over this land.”

~ Pete Seeger & Lee Hays

Read my memories of meeting Mr. Seeger just three months ago at his home in Beacon, New York in an article entitled “Pumpkin Pie and Two Hours With Pete”.

  1. I wasn’t too familiar with him or his songs, but I think I’ve heard “Where Have the Flowers Gone” before.

  2. Khurram Janjua

I heard Pete’s “Bring ’em home” on Democracy Now in a post 9/11 world . .and was sold.
    May he rest in peace.

  3. We’re all a bit deeper in the “Big Muddy” without him . . .

  4. fauzia khan

I was reading about him online, and discovered he would perform at schools and colleges… sounds like you!!

  5. Children and young people are the ones who will soon be making the positive changes we need to see in the world. They are the best gatherings to sing in. If it weren’t for Pete, I may not have seen the importance of that and taken my music and social action in such direction. It is I who owe a great deal to the likes of Pete Seeger.

    Salaam alaikum my dear brother,
When i listen your songs i always think that why is he do not come to Turkey. Please don’t spare your beautiful voice and heart from us, come to Turkey 🙂
    Best regards

  7. Wa alaikum as salam dear Betul,

Thank you for your sweet message. For many years I have wanted to visit Turkey and share my songs. Sadly, such a trip has not yet materialized. God willing, one day it may.

    With peace,

Where is Solange ?You onced lived in waterloo, ont? Why did the police take you ,Solange and daughter away?

  9. Thank you for your message. It seems though that you may have heard some rumours about my whereabouts during the past many years, which are untrue. Solange is well, remarried and residing in Toronto. In 2003, I too was re-married and lived outside of Canada with my wife until 2011, when we moved back to the Kitchener-Waterloo region. We now live with our two daughters in the very neighbourhood where I grew up as a young boy. At no time have I, my family, or my ex-wife’s family ever had problems with the police ~ thank goodness! You may see me from time to time out and about in K-W where my family and I try as much as possible to keep active with our local community ~ skating, swimming, singing in choirs, volunteering with grass-roots organizations and attending local farmer’s markets and festivals.
